Ten sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of circulating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making hurtful comments about the couple's significant age difference.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
